Lakai Footwear Limited is an American footwear company based in Torrance, California that creates shoes designed for and inspired by skateboarding. Lakai was founded by professional skateboarders and Girl Skateboards co-founders Mike Carroll and Rick Howard in 1999. Both Carroll and Howard decided that they wanted to make a contribution to the skate footwear industry by founding their own company rather than being sponsored. At the time that the Lakai idea was conceived, both riders had left their positions on the DC Shoes team roster.

These Atlantics are my 1st pair of Lakai Shoes. They fit well in length, but are a bit narrow. Not enough to bother, just enough to notice. The shoe fits like a glove with my foot feeling locked in as soon as it slides in.These are a low profile cupsole shoe. They are sleek and slim but well padded and athletic looking. They are firm yet flexible. The side panels and tongue are made of a mesh covered perforated padding and there are perforations in the toe and heel leather, so they should breathe. The tongue is well padded without being fat. The cupsole flares out from top to bottom creating more sole real estate for stability and grip.They seem really well made.I don't know what took me so long to try Lakai, but I'm exited. I've been a street skateboarder since the early nineties. I will skate these, but not til I've worn them around a little first.
